Help Reunite A Soldier’s Art

Recently a colleague sent me a link about a soldier’s son trying to locate WWII veterans his father had sketched while serving with the 27th Infantry Division, 105th Infantry Regiment in the Central Pacific. Do you recognize any of these men? His son, Ira Dube found these prints after his father passed away in 2009 and believes that these men served alongside his father during the Battle of Saipan. His son wants to make sure that these never-before-seen sketches are returned to their family members. Veterans Heritage Project (VHP)

When was the last time you were really inspired? Was it an event, a person, a story, or perhaps powerful music? For me, it was all of these coming together in one surprising event. That event was this past Sunday, when I attended the VHP Community Reception and the release of their annual publication, Since You Asked. There were so many people coming together…students, parents, teachers and even seasoned veterans […]

As my research and travels continue to take me to various parts of the United States, I am very excited when I meet other people who have found family war correspondence. PBS is also interested in letters that were sent during the war and I just learned about a project that they are doing to celebrate their new documentary, “The Great War.” It will also commemorate the centennial of the U.S. entry into WWI. Their American […]

Let’s Celebrate National Humor Month, WWII Style

Did you know that April is National Humor Month? I didn’t either as I usually think of April in terms of income tax preparation. Of course, that is no laughing matter unless you are getting a refund! So I was surprised to discover that it was founded forty-one years ago by Larry Wilde, comedian, best-selling author and Director of The Carmel Institute of Humor. The celebration appropriately begins on April Fool’s Day with perhaps a funny prank and merrily continues for the next thirty days. So you may wonder why this funny-focused celebration was started, what the relationship is to […]
