Since I began working on my family’s WWII letters project, I have noticed an increasing interest in WWII memorabilia and family letters in particular. As my research and travels continue to take me to various parts of the United States, I am very excited when I meet other people who have found family war correspondence.
PBS is also interested in letters that were sent during the war and I just learned about a project that they are doing to celebrate their new documentary, “The Great War.” It will also commemorate the centennial of the U.S. entry into WWI. Their American Experience hour-long history series recently launched #WarLetterWednesday. From March to April 12 they are publishing a new challenge for each Wednesday and invite the public to post. Anyone with family letters or other war memorabilia is encouraged to share their information using the hashtag #WarLetterWednesday. American Experience will also share select submissions on their social media platforms. Search #WarLetterWednesday or follow @americanexperiencepbs on Instagram.
